Does anyone know a better way to track a car's whereabouts than CarFax? I don't need to know about damage or how many oil changes it's had or anything, I just need to know where it is. The odds are high that it's now a Toyota Yaris so I'm hoping to not spend money, but if there's some site that might do a better job of keeping track of the actual general location of cars than CarFax I'd like to know. I doubt there is, but doesn't hurt to ask, right?

"The odds are high that it's now a Toyota Yaris."

What was it previously?

Can the local DMV give you a registration address? Some do, for a fee. If you have the VIN or last known plate it might give you a direction.

I seem to recall a website called checkmyride.com, which had a feature where you could look up your old cars by VIN and see where they were last spotted. I believe you would need to create an account, but I think it was at least somewhat accurate.

there was a site that was listed on jalopnik a while back where you could trace the vin. Years ago. Not car fax, but had a map. And you could see where the car "moved" registration to registration.

Oh I thought it was because I had that '68 Town & Country and your memory was foggy or something.

I have the VIN but the last place it was seen was a different state.

Well my memory is perpetually foggy, so you were right about that bit.
